Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

For many military men and women coming back home from serving our country, friends and family are not the only ones they are coming back to live with.  Everyday they must deal with symptoms of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) including

  • chronic pain and headaches
  • nighmares
  • angry outbursts
  • hypersensitivity
  • anxiety and panic disorders

Returning veterans are using acupuncture and acupressure, espcially at specific points in the ear to combat the symptoms and severity of PTSD with good results.

Joe Chang, L.Ac. has pioneered a program for veterans at the Fort Bliss Restoration and Resiliance Center in Killeen, TX and the Warrior Combat Stress Program at Ft. Hood, El Paso, Tx. The acupuncture program, combined with massage therapy, marital and family counseling, and yoga and meditation has reduced the cost of medication as well as some of the side effects that can accompany it.  Read more about it in "Weighing the Costs."

National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, IL has a free acupuncture PTSD clinic for veterans every Thursday.  Read more about it here.
